Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Marko Djuric commented today on the events that are taking place at the European football championship, EURO 2024, which is being held in Germany.

Djuric spoke after the president of the Serbian football federation (FSS) announced that a demand would be submitted to UEFA to punish the Croatian and Albanian FAs after the chants heard from their fans.

Djuric said that the organizer of the tournament, UEFA, was highly politicized when received Pristina as a member.

"I hope that pressure coming from that side will awaken defiance and more fighting spirit in our guys, and we are very proud of them. Among other things, the message, 'kill the Serb', and the like, tell you about the bad climate created by certain extreme politicians, above all (Albin) Kurti's ethnic-nationalist regime, but also some others in the region who are trying in every way to use the wider geopolitical context to achieve their goals, which are not praiseworthy," Djuric told RTS.

The Football Federation of Serbia (FSS) will ask the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to mete out the harshest possible punishment to the Croatian and Albanian football associatins, after chants of "Kill, kill the Serb" echoed through the stadium during the Group B match on Wednesday.

This FSS move was announced by the general secretary, Jovan Surbatovic.

Croatia and Albania fans chanted "Kill, kill the Serb" in unison during the match, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
