Minister Dacic speaks with OSCE's Abdrakhmanov about protection of equal rights for all citizens of Serbia

Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Kairat Abdrakhmanov and on that occasion emphasized MUP's commitment to ensuring and protecting equal rights for all citizens of Serbia, regardless of their ethnicity.

Dacic also pointed to the commitment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) to protect the rights and freedoms of all members of national minorities in its own ranks.

"Our goal remains to increase the number of members of national minorities in the MUP," he said, according to a statement issued by the ministry.

During the conversation, Dacic stressed that the Ministry of Interior undertakes activities to improve police communication and cooperation with minority, marginalized and socially sensitive groups, improve security of members of national minorities and strengthen responsibile approach to work by police officers.

The minister said the MUP has exceptional cooperation with relevant institutions and civil society organizations regarding this matter.

High Commissioner Abdrakhmanov expressed satisfaction with the position of national minorities in Serbia and added that the OSCE will continue to provide support in further improving it.

The two officials discussed the comprehensive and consistent cooperation in the previous period, which was accompanied with mutual support and understanding, both on the bilateral and multilateral level, which is of interest to the work of the OSCE and the achievement of global peace and stability, respect for rights and freedoms of national minorities and finding peaceful ways to solve crises.
