"What we've been through together binds us for the future": Vucevic on ties between Belgrade and Moscow
He stressed that nobody should perceive these relations as being against someone or for someone, but as Serbia taking care of its own interests
Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic posted on his Instagram account and on that occasion referred to Serbia's cooperation with Russia, both economically and politically. In that post, he also touched on the relationship between the Republic of Serbia and the Serb Republic (RS, the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina), as well as the obligation to safeguard that relationship.
"The declaration by Serbia and the RS (from the All-Serb Assembly) is something that is now not only a moral, but also a political, and I hope after ratification in the parliaments of the two countries, a legal obligation for all those who represent them to work together to preserve the national, cultural and spiritual identity of our people," Prime Minister Milos Vucevic wrote his Instagram account @milosvucevic.
"I believe in the traditional relations between Serbia and Russia, which are based on historical ties, the common goal of preserving the rule of law, the freedom-loving spirit of all countries, the independence and sovereignty of countries. What we have gone through together throughout history, both distant and recent, binds us both in the present and for the future, therefore I believe in very good relations," Vucevic told RT Balkan.
He stressed that nobody should perceive these relations as being against someone or for someone, but as Serbia taking care of its own interests.
Our political and economic interest is cooperation with the Russian Federation, which Belgrade and Moscow will continue, he emphasized.
"We have deeply rooted historical ties with Russia. I can't buy into this narrative that is so pervasive these days that we should now give up on someone we've known for a long time. The fact that (Russia) now has a conflict with a third or fourth side - we respect everyone, but you should also respect us. So we want to cooperate in different spheres, in the interest of both countries," Vucevic said while at the Russian Federation Embassy in Belgrade, where he attended a reception celebrating Russia Day.
