Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Service for Combating Organized Crime of the Criminal Investigations Police (UKP), have arrested 11 members of an organized criminal group on suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and people smuggling.
The arrests were carried out on the order of the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and came after a months-long investigation.
Those arrested have been identified by their initials and age as N.D. (51), M.T. (49) (believed to be the ringleaders), as well as V.O. (39), D.M. (54), I.S. (49), A.J. (39), T.DJ. (43), Z.N. (56), S.N. (53), P.K. (38) and D.S. (40).
It is suspected that since November 2023, they operated in the town of Tutin and near the border with Bulgaria to organize the crossing of at least 59 irregular migrants, charging 150 to 250 euros per migrant, to then illegally transport them to Belgrade and to the border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, from where the migrants intended to illegally enter EU countries.
During the search of apartments and other premises used by the suspects, the police found a rifle, several pieces of ammunition, money and several electronic devices, as well as two cars.
The suspects have been taken to the prosecutor, along with a criminal complaint.
