Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic has said, regarding the resolution on Srebrenica adopted in the UN General Assembly, that since this did not happen by consensus, it will be applied in accordance with how each country voted.

"When you sum things up, this resolution is not legally binding, the only use for those who proposed it is that July 11 will be on the agenda and marked by the United Nations," Dacic told Tanjug.

He said that nobody informed Serbia about what was being prepared, while it would have been completely normal to discuss it for a year, to look for some solution or wording that might be acceptable.

"We were aware that this would be a tough fight, i.e. that those who proposed this resolution would certainly not allow themselves to lose to Serbia and that they would not even enter into such a thing if they were not sure that they would get a sufficient number of votes," Dacic added.

Commenting on the results of the vote and the fact that the proponents received less than the expected two-thirds, Dacic said that Serbia was not even aiming for those who are against to prevail over those who are in favor, because the voting system us such, but that the goal was to get the number of countries who voted against or abstained to be greater than the number of those who voted for the resolution.

Dacic said that, while he served as minister of foreign affairs, he spoke with 73 ministers and that some countries voted differently than what they said they would do, citing Guinea-Bissau which voted for the resolution.

When it comes to Ukraine, he said that he thinks Germany "openly threatened Ukraine with stopping the military aid unless they voted for the resolution."

"The situation is that Ukraine and Moldova are the only former Soviet Union countries that voted in favor. All the others abstained, while Russia and Belarus voted against," Dacic said.

He added that Romania, "as a friendly country said from the beginning that they respect the decisions of the courts and it is not a surprise that they voted in favor, although it is a disappointment."

Dacic assessed that the proponents and those who voted for the resolution were disappointed by the fact that there were more abstentions and those who were against, adding that they underestimated Serbian diplomacy and the strength of Serbia.

"And we sometimes underestimate ourselves. We throw stones at something that we had in the past and that can help us, as is the case with (relations with) Africa," Dacic believes.

He stressed that out of the countries that voted in favor of adopting te resolution, 40 were from Europe and the West, while a small number was from outside that area.
