On May 8, the decision on taxi transportation, which was adopted three years ago, will come into effect in Belgrade. According to it, all taxi vehicles must be painted white.

Taxi drivers who fail to comply with these EU standards will receive a fine of 40,000 dinars, and their work permit could also be revoked.

As the president of the Temporary Authority of the City of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, said earlier, the majority of taxi drivers have complied with this decision, which was passed in 2021.

"There are more than 6,000 taxis in the streets of Belgrade and most of them have adapted their vehicles to the current rules, there are about 20 percent that have not done so yet. I believe that by the end of the deadline, everyone will unify their vehicles so that they are all white. There will be no tolerance for those who do not meet the deadline, because the time has come for all taxis to look the same in Belgrade, like in every other European metropolis," he said.

According to the city authority's site Beoinfo, a large number of taxi drivers took advantage of state subsidies, which amounted to 8,000 euros per vehicle, so there are currently around 1,700 cars between one and three years old.

It is stated that work is also being done on the modernization of the taxi service, in terms that in most taxis customers can pay with their cards.
