Father of Belgrade school shooter to remain in custody
Vladimir Kecmanovic, whose at the time 13-year-old son last May shot and killed 10 persons in the Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary in Belgrade, will remain in custody.
The decision to extend the suspect's detention for another 60 days was made by the non-trial panel of the Higher Court in Belgrade on April 29.
The decision was made because of special circumstances that indicate that, in case of being released, the suspect would repeat the criminal offense he is charged with in a short period of time, as well as considering that it is reasonably suspected that he committed a criminal offense which carries a prison sentence of more than ten years.
Another reason is the manner in which the crime was committed and the seriousness of the consequences that were distressing for the members of the public, and that the suspect's release could jeopardize the smooth and fair conduct of criminal proceedings.
The defendant, Vladimir Kecmanovic, is charged with aggravated crime against public safety.
An appeal against the decision can be filed at the Appellate Court in Belgrade within three days.
