Vucic meets with Hebei province delegation, invites Chinese companies to invest in Serbia

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic today received a delegation from the Chinese province of Hebei, headed by the secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China, Ni Yuefeng, with whom he discussed the strengthening of strategic partnership, as well as the improvement of cooperation in the field of green and low-carbon production of steel, economy and trade, logistics and technology.

The president invited Chinese companies interested in investing in numerous other areas, such as agriculture and infrastructure, to come and invest in Serbia, since the cooperation between the two countries, based on trust and partnership, has resulted in the realization of some of the most important projects that strongly launched growth and development of Serbia.

Vucic stressed that the HBIS company, whose headquarters are located in Hebei province, is a pillar of this multi-faceted cooperation and one of the leading joint projects between our countries within the Belt and Road initiative, said the president's press service.

At the beginning of the meeting, the president used the opportunity to once again express his sincere gratitude to President Xi Jinping for his enormous contribution and personal engagement in promoting strong bilateral relations between Serbia and China, which was further confirmed last year when our two countries signed the Free Trade Agreement.

President Vucic pointed out that within the framework of cooperation with China, the partnership relationship with Hebei Province is extremely important for Serbia, since it is one of the economically strongest regions with an impressive annual growth rate and huge investments in the development of new technologies and industries, that it works on in parallel with accelerated modernization of existing facilities.

In this context, HBIS Serbia has made significant investments in eco-friendly steel production, following the corporate commitment related to decarbonization and green technologies.

"Zelezara (steelworks) Smederevo symbolizes the economic development of our country, since it is still one of the top exporters, despite the complex geopolitical circumstances that have left their mark on all the economies in Europe and beyond," the president stressed and added that Serbia is impressed by the progress made by China's industry created in Hebei province, especially in green hydrogen technology for production of carbon-free steel, which could translate to more new projects of key importance for Serbia and the region.
