The body of Serbian Army non-commissioned officer M.T. was found this morning in the Danube-Tisa-Danube (DTD) canal. The body was recovered by divers from the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, who worked together with members of the Gendarmerie diving unit.

The soldier was killed yesterday during regular training activities that involved landing from a helicopter onto the water surface. The drill went wrong and M.T. ended up submerged in the DTD canal.

Senior Sergeant B.V. was seriously injured yesterday during the same accident. He was transported to the Military Medical Academy (VMA) in Belgrade, where he underwent surgery last night. B.V. is in the intensive care unit today.

The victim, M.T., was 44 years old. He was born in Cetinje, Montenegro and has been in the professional service of the Serbian Army since 2000. He was decorated and awarded many times for his achieved in the service.

M.T. was married with three children.

Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army General Milan Mojsilovic has formed a commission to investigate the event, which has the task of reviewing all the circumstances and determining the cause.

Expert commissions have also been formed by the commander of the Air Force and Air Defense (RV-PVO) and the commander of the 72nd Special Operations Brigade.

Representatives of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Pancevo and authorized military police officers were at the scene today.
