"Biological traces can be found on everything, they remain": Pathologist on potential identification of Danka
Pathologist Radoslav Radosavljevic said today, regarding the murder of 2-year-old girl Danka Ilic from Bor, that the biological material from the child can be found on all objects with which she came into contact - clothes, shoes, toys, as well as on leaves, if there is any blood from a wound or injury on them.
He told Tanjug that DNA is an unchallenged method in body identification and the most important element in the investigation, because the DNA profile of the girl must match the DNA profile of her mother, that is, the closest relatives.
When asked whether, as time passes since the murder of Danka Ilic, there will be fewer chances to establish all the details of the murder, Radosavljevic said that the passing of time means that degenerative secondary changes occur on the body, as well as elements originating from the external environment, such as humidity, high temperature, the activity of animals, which can lead to certain changes.
"All these changes make it difficult to take and analyze the material, but that material always remains. It depends on whether something else was used to destroy those biological traces, such as chemicals, physical action, lime or some acids, all of which can affect or diminish the significance of those traces," explained the pathologist.
According to him, different analyses and methods, the most important of which is the DNA profile, can be used to find traces because DNA can be established and found from bones and teeth that survive the longest without being destroyed.
