Neighbor of one of the suspects in Danka's murder speaks: If he's guilty, let him hang, but if not..."
2-year-old girl Danka Ilic was brutally murdered on March 26 in Banjsko Polje. Srdjan Jankovic from the village of Luka and Dejan Dragijevic from the village of Zlot, eastern Serbia, are the suspects in this crime that has shocked the country.
Locals in both villages are saying that they did not notice anything strange about Srdjan and Dejan (during the time the girl was considered to be missing). One day, they saw the police, and then heard what their neighbors were arrested for.
The village of Zlot is teeming with police today as well.
"No one will talk about it because people are not sure what happened. There isn't a house he (Dejan - both suspects were employee of the local waterworks company) didn't go into, when somebody needed help with their water pipes or whatever, he was skilled in a lot of crafts. I can only say that if they did that, they really are monsters who deserve to be hanged, but if they didn't, then God help them," said a neighbor of the Dragijevic family in Zlot, and added:
"When Dejan's brother died (on Sunday in police custody), I didn't go to offer my condolences to the family because if it's true, then I don't want anything do to with them . I'm so distressed, it sends shivers down my spine when I think of the child."
The body of Danka Ilic is yet to be found.
