Memorandum on strategic cooperation signed in Paris with French electricity company EDF

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that the visit to Paris began with important meetings of essential importance for Serbia.

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Serbia and the French electricity provider (EDF) to establish a framework for long-term dialogue in the field of energy transition and low-carbon technology was signed today in Paris in the presence of Aleksandar Vucic.

The memorandum was signed by Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and EDF CEO Luc Remont.

Vucic previously held a meeting with the company's management.

The president is on a 2-day visit to France at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.

According to him, the visit is of great importance for our country.

"This (EDF) is the French company for electricity production, transmission and trade, one of the largest in the world, and the largest producer of renewable energy in Europe, therefore a top company. They had a profit of 139.7 billion euros last year and we are also talking to them about how to acquire their expertise on numerous issues, how and in what way we can work together in the future, from hydropower plants to nuclear power plants, because you know that they are the largest producer and user of nuclear energy and that they have secured themselves for the future," Vucic said earlier today.

"These are long-term investments, you have to wait half a decade for returns. Serbia is not a parasitic country, it has its own growing industry. Investors come the most, and that is why it is extremely important that we ensure this. We will sign a memorandum of understanding with EDF today, and I believe we will do a lot with them. In today's world, when you are surrounded by countries that don't always look favorably on you, you must find a way to achieve various things. Where nuclear energy is concerned, how to get nuclear fuel is only a part of it," said Vucic.
