Latest footage from the scene of the disappearance of Danka (2): Police using sonar to probe depth of pits

Inspectors are combing every inch of the yard where, according to the mother, 2-year-old Danka Ilic disappeared yesterday in Banjsko Polje, eastern Serbia.

At this point the girl has been missing for more than 20 hours. A video obtained by Telegraf.rs shows policemen likely using a sonar to check the depth of pits and ponds located not far from the house.

"The mother told the police that the child disappeared after she just turned around to give water to her son. If her story is true the child could not have gone far. For this reason, the police are combing every centimeter of the yard in order to make sure the girl did not fall into one of the pits. Neighbors who claimed to have seen the girl yesterday have also been interviewed," says our source and adds that it is "unclear how the girl disappeared far from the house within 15 minutes, which is how long it took the police to reach the location and start the search."

Yesterday, more than 500 people joined in the search.

Because of the crowds, sniffer dogs had to work with mixing scents, which is why today the terrain is searched in smaller groups of volunteers of 20 people each, who go with the police.

All owners of weekend homes in the settlement have been asked to come and open their houses, so that the police can search those as well and remove any suspicion.

The locals say they are confused and fear that someone may have abducted the girl and taken her in an unknown direction.

That is why all vehicles are being checked at several police checkpoints.

However, it is unclear how the girl could vanish so quickly, given that, aged 2, she could not have gone far.

"Find me"

Danka Ilic disappeared on Tuesday around 13:45, and was at the time wearing purple pants, an olive green jacket, with her hair tied in a ponytail.

The "Pronadji me" ("Find me," Serbian version of Amber Alert) system was activated for the first time on Tuesday, and as stated on the website pronadjime.mup.gov.rs, the toddler has brown hair, brown eyes, and is about 85 centimeters tall.
