The president spoke after the summit in Brussels

President Aleksandar Vucic was participating in the first summit on nuclear energy, which is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Belgium, and was held today in Brussels.

After the summit, the president addressed the media and said that he had important discussions with many leaders.

"We attended the first summit on nuclear energy and it is important that Serbia participated in it. We have to understand what is happening in the world and what is coming our way and that is artificial intelligence. We have major power supply problems and will have them in the future. Our industry is growing at a high speed, but the needs of the population are such that people have grown accustomed to high standards.

In summer, you want up to 18 degrees, and in winter above 20. We don't have a grid that can cover that. We have many problems and we must not play with them. When we are producing electricity mostly from coal, we will have to pay taxes. It's important that we change the legal framework around the nuclear energy moratorium as soon as possible. Let's talk with everyone," said Vucic.

He stressed that the best energy is green energy, but that requires huge investments.

"Today I asked about the possibility of financing, the whole world is going for it and that is the only way they might be able to sustain it. Artificial intelligence uses up a lot of the electricity, there are countless of these problems. We have to look to the future, we have to hurry, and you can't build a traditional nuclear power plant in less than 10 years," he said.

"We will have to change the laws and start first of all with small modular reactors. Nuclear energy is the best and safest, but it requires huge investments," Vucic said.

Vucic also stated that he had numerous important political conversations.

"I believe that we spent time here in a useful way," said President Vucic.

He said that he had a long conversation with Macron and that they arranged a meeting in Paris.

"I talked for a long time with Ursula, with Macron. We arranged to meet in Paris. I spoke with Robert Fico, I expect his visit," said the president.

"We talked about the European Council, I expect a longer meeting with Macron soon, we talked about all geopolitical issues, about Ukraine, about our path to the EU. We talked about everything," stated Vucic and added that he invited Macron to visit Serbia.

"I spoke with many others, from Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic to others, and I believe that we had a useful stay here. I am now waiting for Maros Sefcovic to come. Then representatives of the European Commission will come again. It's a long but constructive day. (Belgian Prime Minister Alexander) de Croo will get a letter from the new prime minister (of Serbia) where we ask for Belgium's help in Vinca. We will have to get some people back, import some," said Vucic.
