Brnabic on decision to nominate her as Assembly president: Emotional evening, new role will be great challenge
Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic met in Bucharest with President of Romania Klaus Iohannis. The prime minister is participating in the congress of the European People's Party.
"A very good meeting with the president of Romania, a fantastic man, this is my first meeting with him. Absolutely firm position that Romania stands by Serbia on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, but also on the issue of European integration," said Brnabic.
"We will work more on connecting our schools, universities, technology parks. We talked about the president of Romania visiting Serbia," Brnabic told Serbian media after the meeting.
"An emotional evening for me, it was the greatest possible honor in my life to be at the helm of the government, the greatest honor to work side by side with President Vucic, we worked as a team. We were never afraid to dream big," Brnabic, who has until now served as prime minister, said when asked about that job.
"To my successor - it's a vision, you sit down, work, there's pressure every day, it's not some metaphysics, you work every day from morning to evening, don't be afraid of anything, a strong team, a strong vision, we already have it all, just work, work, talk to people, respect people. Our country has many good people," Brnabic said when asked what she would say to the next prime minister.
"I expect the parliament (National Assembly) to meet very soon, to be formed as soon as possible and to continue working, I thank my party, SNS, for everything. They have shown me the trust to be the president of the Assembly, that is my medal. I would like other parties in Serbia to learn from SNS in giving people a chance, one does not have to be a member of the party, that those partisan passions calm down a little, I recognized that in SNS, that's why I joined. They gave me everything because they recognized in me a desire to I work for my country."
"I don't think the new role will be easy, I have to learn a lot, I start learning tonight, it's always good to understand that you don't know everything, that you need to improve, but I will do my best and work in the interest of Serbi," Brnabic concluded.
The prime minister's office announced that the meeting with Romania's president was good and that Romania once again confirmed its support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia. Iohannis said that Romania is ready to help Serbia on its European path.
Brnabic and Johannis also discussed the realization of projects in the field of infrastructure.
Brnabic had several important meetings, among others, with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Today, on the sidelines of the Congress, Brnabic will have meetings with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides.
The EPP Congress gathered more than 2,000 participants, including EU officials, heads of state and representatives of parties, as well as members of parties that are part of the EPP "political family".
