12 migrants transported by boat near Mali Zvornik: BiH citizen jumped into river as soon as he saw police
The irregular migrants were detained for the offense of staying in the Republic of Serbia illegally, and illegally crossing of the state border
Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) continued the activities of the Headquarters for Suppression of Irregular Migration in Mali Zvornik, and last night prevented the smuggling of migrants across the Drina River and the state border between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
The police arrested S.M. (24), a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on suspicion that he committed the criminal offense of illegally crossing state borders and the offense of people smuggling.
After the police in Donja Borina near Mali Zvornik discovered that S.M. who was transporting 12 irregular migrants across the Drina by boat, the suspect jumped out of the boat and tried to swim to the bank of the river that is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Gendarmes from the Diving Unit, however, quickly reacted and caught S.M. who was safely pulled out of the water and then arrested.
The irregular migrants were detained for the offense of staying in the Republic of Serbia illegally, and illegally crossing of the state border.
The suspect is detained for up to 48 hours and will be brought to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Sabac, along with a criminal complaint.
