"She was a battered wife, mother defended her, last night paid with her life": Relatives' chilling testimony

Relatives and friends of murder victims Dragana R. and her mother Nada C. today gathered in their home in Rakovac near Beocin, where the women were killed last night.

They are planning their funeral, and say in unison that they were "always afraid of Branislav and sensed something like this might happen."

The suspect in this double murder is in custody and most likely tomorrow will be questioned at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Sad.

The police have found the knife Branislav R. used to kill his two victims.

"Dragana's marriage (to ex-husband Branislav) was hard. She put up with all sorts of things. He humiliated her, beat her... Her mother always defended her. She probably tried last night too, so he killed them both. There is blood everywhere in the house. There was a restraining order issued against him, but again that did not prevent him from murdering them," says a relative.

When the police arrived last night, they came across a horrific scene. The bodies of the women were lying in pools of blood.

By order of the prosecution, autopsies will be performed.
