An unscheduled session of the United Nations Security Council dedicated to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, at the request of Serbia, will be held on Thursday starting at 9 pm Central European Time, Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed for RTS late on Tuesday.

Whether the session will be open or closed to the public has not been officially confirmed, but Dacic said that he had unofficial information it would be open, despite pressure from some countries to hold a closed meeting.

Serbia on Monday submitted a request to the UN mission of Guyana, the country that this month presides over the Council, to convene an extraordinary session because of to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija.

Among other things, the request pointed out that the current situation is in sharp contrast with the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and is of such nature that it requires the holding a special session of the Council.
