Vucic: A couple more Kamov helicopters, and Serbia will become firefighting superpower
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic today commented on the fire in New Belgrade during a tour of the works on the renovation of the creative and innovative multifunctional center Lozionica.
Vucic said that, as unhappy as he is that the fire broke out, he is glad that people were able to see what was involved in the intervention to put it out.
"For the first time, we showed one of the two Kamov (helicopters) from Russia that we bought, two H145s of which we have more, they carry small tanks, while the water tank on the Kamovs is 5-fold bigger. We now have two Kamovs, if we have enough money to buy two more, then we will be the absolute superpower when it comes to firefighting, not only in the Balkans but in Southeast Europe," said Vucic and added:
"That was our saving grace to some extent. Now we have 240 cadets for the firefighter and for emergency situations jobs, so we are going to reinforce them," Vucic said.
He also added that climate change brings more hot weather and that there will be possible incidents requiring wildfire firefighting in the summer, and that is why it is important for Serbia to be as well equipped as possible.
