Despite persistent appeals, the use of pyrotechnics such as firecrackers and fireworks is still prevalent, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) reminds citizens that in addition to unauthorized sale, their use is also punishable.

The MUP points out that the law prohibits the sale of pyrotechnic products to persons under the age of 18, and they add that during the New Year and Christmas holidays in the last 3 years, 137 violations of public order and peace were committed by launching pyrotechnic products or shooting.

"The use of pyrotechnic products that violates public order and peace or endangers the safety of citizens is punishable by law with a fine of 50,000 to 100,000 dinars. Inexpert handling of pyrotechnic products is dangerous and can lead to injuries," MUP representatives have stated.

They added that from 2020 to 2022, 52 people were injured due to inadequate use of pyrotechnic products, 12 of whom suffered serious injuries.

"Out of the total number of those injured, 11 were minors, and 16 were children," said the MUP.
