The Football Association (Federation) of Serbia, FSS, has reacted to the decision of the European Court of Justice regarding the so-called 'Super League' case, and they expressed support for the European model of sports organization and the way the competitions function under UEFA.

In a statement signed by the FSS, it is said that the "Super League" - which is once again being talked about more and more - could take football  away from the people.

"We will fight with all we have to protect national championships and the general principle of sporting successes, and advancement in the leagues based on results, as well as to respect established international football calendars," the statement reads, and adds:

"Football is a sport that belongs to everyone. And it must stay that way. Any alternative competition based on principles contrary to the European model of sport, without completely clear criteria, is a threat to the integrity of national championships, and could nullify all the values of this, the most beautiful game in the world. The ball keeps rolling thanks to the fans, and they have confirmed many times their negative attitude towards a competition (like the 'Super League') that separates the 'elite' from the national football. The project of the so-called 'Super League' would take football away from the people and send it into an even tighter embrace of the rich and the powerful."

The statement goes on to say:

"The Football Federation of Serbia is of the opinion that the 'Super League' is not a project compatible with the basic values of the sport, and the tradition of football, that UEFA has been building for almost seven decades and which mean competing based on success and results achieved on the pitch. No one has the right to undermine the foundations of the football pyramid solely for monetary reasons and based on personal interests. While absolutely respecting the decisions of European institutions and EU laws, we will continue to work in the interest of the value system UEFA stands for as our umbrella organization."
