Petkovic informs Von Redecker about situation in Kosovo and Metohija and problems faced by Serbs
The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stressed that it is necessary to de-escalate the situation on the ground as soon as possible
Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic met yesterday with the head of the division for the Western Balkans in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Niels Von Redecker.
Petkovic informed the guest about the political situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the problems faced the Serbs due to political and other disenfranchisement and constant attempts to get submitted to the will of Pristina through violent and undemocratic means, stressing that there is a question mark over the survival of the Serb people, especially in the North, because of Albin Kurti's terror, announced the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.
Recent events, when Albanian representatives in the municipalities of Kosovska Mitrovica, Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan refused to accept the citizens' initiative for the removal of fake and illegitimate mayors in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, which the EU also insists on, point to this, said Petkovic.
The police asking citizens for their IDs, at that moment, had to goal to intimidate them, which, according to Petkovic, clearly shows that Kurti's regime is not even considering de-escalating the situation in the four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, said a statement.
Such and other frequent unilateral moves by Pristina, like unfounded and unlawful arrests and daily violence perpetrated by the Pristina regime against the Serbs, create new tensions in the province, which Belgrade does not want at all, said Petkovic.
The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stressed that it is necessary to de-escalate the situation on the ground as soon as possible, as well as to form the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO) as soon as possible on the basis of the (Brussels) agreements from 2013 and 2015, through which collective and individual rights of the Serbs in the province would be ensured, but which has been delayed for more than ten years.
Petkovic emphasized that despite the crises, which multiply daily in Kosovo and Metohija, Belgrade remains committed to dialogue with Pristina, believing that this is the only way to prevent further escalation of inter-ethnic tensions, and to preserve peace.
The meeting was also attended by German Ambassador to Serbia, Anke Konrad.
