Dusan Obrenovic was released on Monday on bail.

This news was announced by the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic.

"The brave young man Dusan Obrenovic was released today from prison after six months, on bail, and will be free while defending himself (in court). He just joined his sister who was eagerly waiting for him! Their embrace is the greatest satisfaction for us after everything that Dusan has been through," Petkovic wrote on X.

Dusan lives in Northern Kosovska Mitrovica, and in 2016 abandoned Islam to become an Orthodox Christian. That is when he changed his name, and he says that he fell in love with Orthodox faith from a young age.

"I did not convert, since our ancestors were Orthodox, I simply returned. The father, originally from Brcko (in Bosnia and Herzegovina), said there was no problem, the sister did not protest, while the mother was not enthusiastic," Obrenovic told the media a few years ago.

Obrenovic was arrested before the riots broke out in Zvecan on May 29. After he was arrested, KFOR handed him over to the Kosovo police together with Rados Petrovic.

During police detention, Dusan Obrenovic was brutally beaten by the Kosovo police, and was transferred to the prison in Podujevo, where he was being held.

His detention was extended in June, when his lawyer Predrag Miljkovic said he would appeal.

Liaison officer between Belgrade and Pristina, Dejan Pavicevic, stated earlier that Obrenovic and Petrovic were detained regardless of the fact that there is evidence that they did not in any way participate in the riots on May 29 in Zvecan, because KFOR took them away 20 minutes before it all started.
