"I have seen all kinds of things during my life and career, buried many colleagues and comrades, but this has never happened before," Danny Yatom, former head of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, told Telegraf.rs regarding the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel.

"We all feel bad about it and want revenge," Yatom said, adding that Hamas is a "murderous organization."

"Simply, their goal is to kill Jews and destroy Israel," he says.

With the attack on October 7, according to Yatom, Hamas wanted to inflict as much pain as possible on the Israelis.

"And they succeeded in doing so, killing people in their homes," Yatom said.

Asked who is responsible, that is, how it is possible that the Israeli army and services failed in this way, which allowed for such a massive surprise attack, he believes that "the security system failed."

"Our security system, which is known to be the best in the world, has now failed. Hamas wanted to cause panic and they succeeded. People in Israel were scared because of the murders and kidnappings of babies and children," he explains.

Asked how long this war will last and what will follow after it, he was short but direct.

"When this war is over, and that will be when we have fulfilled all the goals set out, we will have to reexamine how and why this happened. It is unclear how this could have happened in the first place, since thousands of people were involved in the Hamas operation. How come no one discovered that information?," Yatom asked.

"We are strong, we will win! We will not stop until we achieve the goals of our mission - the destruction of Hamas and the return of those kidnapped," concluded the former head of the Mossad.

Who is Danny Yatom?

Dani Yatom (78) is a former Israeli politician who was a member of the Knesset from the Labor party. Between 1996 and 1998, Yatom was the head of the Mossad, and between 1999 and 2001 he was Prime Minister Ehud Barak's chief of staff and security adviser.

From 1963 to 1996, he served in the Israel Defense Forces and worked in the Sayeret Matkal special unit, reaching the position of deputy commander, after which he moved to the Armored Corps, and then became the head of Israel's Central Command, with the rank of major general.

In 1994, Yatom served as the IDF commander for the West Bank.
