Nikola indicted for smuggling 25 migrants from Syria: This was his "MO"
The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) in Belgrade has filed an indictment against Nikola S. (30) on suspicion that he in September, in Zemun, Belgrade - with the intention of obtaining illegal financial gains - facilitated the illegal transit through the Republic of Serbia of 25 foreign citizens, illegal migrants from Syria.
The indictment, which was submitted to the Higher Court in Belgrade for confirmation, charges the defendant with the criminal offense of illegal crossing of the state border and people smuggling.
The Prosecution proposed to the court to extend the defendant's detention to prevent him from repeating the criminal offense in a short period of time, bearing in mind that in Hungary, he has already beeen sentenced for the same criminal offense to five years in prison and is also banned from entering Hungary for 10 years.
There is reasonable suspicion that on September 5 Nikola S. borrowed a Volkswagen Crafter from its owner for 70 euros, saying that he needed the vehicle to transport home appliances to Subotica (northern Serbia), and agreed to return the vehicle the same day.
After taking over the car, itno which 25 migrants entered in order to be transported to Hungary, the suspect started the journey from a parking lot, but shortly after, on the road, encountering the owner of the vehicle who tried to stop him.
Nikola S. then abandoned the car while it was in motion and fled the scene by running away.
