A shipment of tangerines from Croatia that was intended for export to the Serbian market was stopped at the border and ordered to be destroyed in a safe manner, because during the inspection it was determined that the fruit came from a lot that was found to contain the illegal pesticide chlorpyrifos, the Ministry of Agriculture has confirmed.

The European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food Safety (RASFF) announced that 0.044 milligrams per kilogram of chlorpyrifos was found in tangerine samples taken on October 18, and that they were ordered to be destroyed.

By the way, this is the second controversial shipment of tangerines from Croatia, due to the presence of the same pesticide, since another was returned to that country previously, but there was another case the other way around: in mid-August, a shipment of peaches from Serbia was sent back from Croatia.

Chlorpyrifos has been banned in the EU since the beginning of 2020, and in Serbia since last year, except when it comes to sugar beet, according to the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture.
