Dozens of neo-Nazi graffiti appeared all over Novi Sad (in Serbia's northern Vojvodina province), and that happened on the eve of an anti-fascist march organized on the occasion of the city's Second World War liberation day, reports 021.

Celtic crosses, swastikas, symbols and other neo-Nazi messages, as well as graffiti against the LGBT community, appeared on the walls of the Catholic and Jewish cemetery in Novi Sad, the Edjseg Cultural Station and numerous residential buildings in the Grbavica neighborhood.

Residents who live in Grbavica with whom a 021.rs reporter spoke say that the graffiti were created in the night between October 23 and 24, and that they only noticed it in the morning.

"The appearance of anti-Semitic, fascist and Nazi symbols in the days ahead of the march, and during the night, shows that such groups are present in Novi Sad, and that they can act freely under the auspices and patronage of certain political actors, as well as institutions that have not reacted to their rampage for months, even years"- a movement ("Citizen Movement Bravo," as per 021), announced.

They are demanding that the authorities act urgently and remove the graffiti.

"We also demand that the police and the judiciary take steps within their jurisdiction, to find and punish the perpetrators who, by writing these graffiti, committed the crime of causing national, racial and religious hatred and intolerance," they said.

Residents of Novi Sad are also urged to report such graffiti when they see them in their neighborhood or street.

This is another in a series of anti-Semitic graffiti that have appeared in Novi Sad in recent months and years. On Monday, October 23, the Day of Liberation of Novi Sad in the Second World War was marked, the report said.

During that day, numerous officials and citizens celebrated the liberators of the city, but also paid tribute to the victims of the war. In the evening, an anti-fascist march was organized, with several hundred residents of Novi Sad participating.
