European Parliament adopts resolution on developments in dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina
Members of the European Parliament (EP) have adopted in a majority vote a "Resolution of the European Parliament on recent developments in the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue."
That document is not legally binding and the recommendations contained in it require further consensus among EU member countries.
In the EP document, in a rather harsh tone prompted by the attack on the so-called Kosovo police on September 24, Belgrade and Pristina are called to deescalate, to determine all the facts regarding the events in Banjska, for both sides to return to dialogue, but, among other things, the European Commission and the European Council are asked "to take measures against Serbia if it is established that it was directly involved in those events," reports Tanjug.
Member of the Delegation of Serbia to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Elvira Kovac, on Wednesday told Tanjug that it should be understood that this resolution is not binding and that imposing actual sanctions (against Serbia) requires a consensus, which currently does not exist among EU members on this issue.
