Tomica B. (52), a Serb man from Priluzje in Kosovo and Metohija, was released from custody today.

He was arrested by members of the so-called Kosovo police at the Merdare administrative checkpoint, without any explanation. He was then taken to Pristina, the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija announced on Wednesday.

The Office saud yesterday that Tomica, a father of three - who has been crossing the administrative line for years before without any problems - was with his wife at the time of his arrest and was returning from Krusevac in central Serbia, a town he occasionally visits.

"With the new arbitrary arrests of Serbs by Pristina (authorities), a message is being sent to our people that they are not welcome on their own land, and they are being further intimidated, with the aim of permanently expelling them from the territory of Kosovo and Metohija," said the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

It further assessed that this is is about "a quiet institutional ethnic cleansing of Serbs and the implementation of Albin Kurti's plan for an ethnically clean Kosovo and Metohija, where the message is sent to Serbs that they can end up in Kurti's dungeons at any time."

"Additionally, with the daily detentions and arrests of Serbs, instead of the necessary deescalation, Pristina, led by Kurti, further raises tensions and causes more crises on the ground," a statement of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said.

The Office for Kosovo and Metohija went on to say that it immediately hired a lawyer for the detained Serb who would check all the details regarding his arrest, and provide him with the necessary legal assistance and protection.
