Serbians' life expectancy increases: In this district people live longest, and here is where it's the opposite

Life expectancy of Serbians has increased.

Data from the Batut Institute of Public Health of Serbia show that in 2022 life expectancy was 75.6 years, while in 2020 it was 74.2 and in 2021 - 72.7.

"The expected life expectancy for men is now 73 and for women 78.1 years," data from the Batut Institute shows.

Residents of Zlatibor District live the longest (76.7) while those in the North Banat District the shortest (73).

"In the Zlatibor District, men live to be 74.1 and women 79.5 years of age. On the other hand, in the North Banat district, the average life expectancy for men is 4 years shorter than in the Zlatibor region - 70.3, and 75.7 for women," according to the Batut Institute.

In Serbia ,according to the censuses from 1953 to 2002 there was a constant increase in the number of inhabitants. According to the new methodology of population census and assessment, which has been carried out by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia since 2002, in the period from 1991 to 2022, the number of inhabitants in our country decreased from 7,576,837 to 6,647,003.

The estimated number of inhabitants for 2022 is 6,664,449, of which 3,240,822 are men and 3,423,627 are women, which represents a decrease of 833,552 -11 percent compared to the number of inhabitants in the 2002 census year (7,498,001), that is a decrease of 522,413 - 7 percent compared to the 2011 census year (7,186,862).

Last year, women of childbearing age 15 to 49) made up 21.2 percent of the population, while people aged 65 and over made up 22 percent of the population.
