I had 60 seconds to hide: Testimony of Serbian citizen who lived in Israel for 23 years and has now fled war
"I wasn't scared, once every three or four months there are rockets, shots and sirens, so we're already used to it," this is how a Serbian citizen, who had been living in Israel for 23 years, began his testimony for Telegraf.rs after landing in Belgrade, where he was forced to evacuate due to an unprecedented attack that escalated into a war.
The third plane that evacuated Serbian sitizens from war-torn areas of Israel landed in Belgrade today at around 10 am at the Nikola Tesla Airport, where one could witness hugs and tears, but also the fear of those who were waiting for their loved ones and wishing that, behind the sliding airport doors, they would appear, safe and sound.
"I saw the rockets, I was indoors so that nothing would hit me, but it's not exactly the kind of horror that you see on the news and how it is for others, we live there every day, so we're used to it," said the man.
Located about 40 kilometers from Gaza, he had only 60 seconds to find shelter so that the rockets that tore through the sky would not hit him.
"It was normal for me because I served in the army, I was not afraid of being hit by a rocket," said this brave man.
Since the beginning of the war, the media has been speculating that this attack is one of the biggest in the last 50 years, which this Serbian citizen confirmed.
"The state (of Israel) had a lot of problems, the last time a similar attack happened in 1973, they (Palestinians) probably took the chance and hit even harder than usual."
He stressed that he felt safe in Israel up until now, without feeling he had to flee.
"Here (in Serbia) I don't have to run away from anyone, I'm safer, but it's not that scary there either," concluded this Serbian citizen.
