Petkovic: Kurti's threat to Serbs and the Serb List is very dangerous
Albin Kurti's statement that Serbs in Kosovo and the Serb List will "suffer and pay" is very dangerous and shows the true nature of Kurti's regime, the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said today.
"Yesterday was a difficult day in Brussels, the negotiations were conducted in impossible conditions, because Kurti refuses to form the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO). Borrell said this openly and clearly yesterday, and this is new, in that unlike in earlier cases when after the negotiations, both sides were accused, yesterday for the first time we saw the most open attitude of the European Union, and even the US, that Kurti was responsible for the failure of the dialogue yesterday," Petkovic told RTS on Friday.
He added that, although yesterday's negotiations were very difficult, they are not over and that the state of Serbia will fight frantically to preserve peace and stability, and that it will do everything to reach a compromise solution - "the word compromise for Serbs in Kosovo is not an ugly word, it means life to them."
"We will try to use wise moves to do everything to preserve peace, but also so that what was agreed in 2013 and 2015 must be implemented," said Petkovic.
He stressed that on Thursday, despite the difficult day, Belgrade had "a small reason for satisfaction, and it was reflected in the fact that it was clearly seen and heard that Belgrade was not to blame, but showed constructiveness and accepted the EU proposal, which implied first the formation of the ZSO, and then work on the (normalization) implementation plan."
Petkovic added that Kurti, in addition to refusing to form the ZSO, also rejected the EU's compromise proposal for normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina, as well as a proposal for deescalation in the north of Kosovo and Metohija.
He assessed that the administrative instruction, which was passed by Kurti, was a trick by Pristina.
"They say that they are ready to go into the process of deescalation through elections, then pass an administrative instruction where, among other things, the procedure from signing a petition to announcing mayoral elections lasts 118 days. With this, he is trying to call the EU itself out, he wants to play games with everyone, he thinks that in this way he can strengthen his position," Petkovic pointed out.
According to him, Borrell's statement and pressure from the EU and the US represent a step forward in the dialogue process.
"Understand that the most powerful countries in the West created a so-called independent Kosovo and it is their baby. No matter how much Kurti is a naughty boy to them, they will do everything to preserve and protect that so-called independence," said Petkovic and added that Serbia will not give up its position and its people in Kosovo and Metohija.
