Vucic speaks after new round of dialogue in Brussels: The meeting ended unsuccessfully
A bilateral meeting between EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the EU special representative for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, and the Belgrade delegation led by President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic ended in Brussels this morning.
This was followed by a separate meeting between Borrell and Lajcak and the Pristina delegation headed by Prime Minister of the Provisional Pristina Institutions Albin Kurti.
President Vucic addressed the public on the occasion of this meeting:
"We met, it ended unsuccessfully. Serbia accepted a compromise proposal of the EU, but Kurti did not want to accept it and the meeting ended."
The compromise, he explained, meant first determining whether the process around the ZSO (Community of Serb Municipalities) is credible, and then to see what the obligations are.
"The other side did not accept it," he added.
He also spoke about a petition calling for organizing elections (in northern Kosovo and Metohija).
"The best solution is to go for resignations (of mayors). The whole petition program... Do you know how long it would take to just go through it. Things are being made up to avoid the election process. The bottom line is that they don't want to. When you ask Kurti, 'Just confirm to me that you will support the formation of the ZSO', you never get a positive answer," he said.
The president also noted that there are now 50 times more incidents in Kosovo than under any previous administration in Pristina.
"The European Union will come out with an even more concrete response. Peace between Serbs and Albanians is something that no one must play with. Leposavic will be a part of the ZSO, as well as Zubin Potok...," he stressed.
"This is not the end of the world. The answer will surely be heard as to who is responsible... What I am sure of is that we must continue to talk," he was clear.
