"Tenants weren't paying rent, bills for years, owner blew himself up, his head was found"

Programmer Djorje A. (56) most likely caused a tragedy in the center of Smederevo last night when he activated several kilograms of pure explosives and thus blew himself up and injured a brother and a sister.

Problems between him and his tenants are cited as the motive.

Unofficially, he asked them to move out of his apartment because they were not paying their rent on time.

As they refused to open the door, he yesterday activated the explosives.

"They didn't pay the rent for two years, he couldn't evict them. He would come, they didn't want to open the door for him. A father, his son, a daughter and the daughter's child lived there. Luckily the child was in front of the building, and she was rarely outside. He knocked on the door, they didn't open. From the second floor up, the doors are broken (after the blast). I was supposed to leave my apartment at 20:40, it happened at 20:35. Luckily I got out earlier," says Aleksandar Kojsor, who lives in the apartment below the one where the explosion took place, and adds:

"Half my apartment is a mess. My dog's leg was broken because of the detonation. No one can enter for at least a few more hours. My room is a disaster, a pipe burst, the living room is a disaster. What is a miracle is that none of the icons have been damaged. God himself saved me. He (the man who activated the explosives) was in the corridor, when the windows blew out, his head flew across the street."

"This is a huge trauma for my father, who rushed into our apartment immediately after the explosion to rescue the dogs," Aleksandar continues.

"There was blood all over the apartment (from the explosion above), it is flooded, half of it is destroyed. There are still body parts inside, we are waiting for (the authorities) to sort it out, people from the city administration will come in and only then can we, too. I never saw the owner of the apartment (over which the incident happened), he rarely came. For two or three years, there were problems with rent, payment of bills, they (the pennants) would leave notes on the door saying that they were not there when he would come. He knocked, they didn't want to open and he activated the bomb," adds Aleksandar.

The tragedy happened last night around 8 pm in the town of Smederevo.
