"I heard my sister shouting, 'Vladimir!', I turned aroumd and just gave her the phone. I didn't hesistate for a second," this is how the young hero from Sremska Mitrovica, Vladimir Kondic (25), who defended a woman from an abuser who had bit her on the face in front of a hospital, begins his story. Siblings Vladimir and Valentina found themselves in the right place at the right time and prevented a more tragic scenario of violence that enraged people after a video of it appeared on social networks.

Vladimir explained for Telegraf.rs what happened yesterday and who the man who committed an act of violence against the woman was.

"That happened yesterday. At that moment I had 100 problems racing through my head because I was taking my father to the hospital and I was only thinking about him. I wasn't the one who noticed, my sister did. She immediately alerted me, shouted out my name and I raised my head. He (the attacker) had pushed the woman against the wall with his hands, hugged her strangely and his head was on her face. When I saw that, I just gave my phone to my sister and ran over. First, I physically protected the lady from him with my body, and then I noticed that he withdrew and any other use of violence on my part was unnecessary. Several times I pushed the bicycle that he put in front of me to protect himself and then I just followed him until he left," says Vladimir.

He says he didn't even pay attention to the woman because his sister Valentina was with her, so he didn't see the injury the attacker had caused her.

"I didn't look at the woman at all, I was looking at him the whole time. The sister was with her and I had my back turned to her to protect her. She was under a lot of stress, like me. When I turned around, her eyes were full of tears, and only later I saw her cheek and the teeth marks. If my sister hadn't reacted, if she hadn't seen it, I won't even think about what the outcome of all this could have been. I honestly don't know if I would have noticed it at that moment or later because my thoughts were elsewhere," says Vladimir, who happens to be Serbia's a two-time wrestling champion.

He adds that the woman later told them it was her ex-husband and that they have two children together, but also that she currently has a restraining order against him, meant to protect her.

Vladimir and Valentina stayed with the woman for a while to make sure she was okay.

"I bought her a bottle of water and let her refresh herself and regain her composure a little. That's all I could do," says Vladimir.

Vladimir stresses that he considers it his duty as a conscientious citizen and a man not to allow any kind of violence, let alone against women.

"Even if I wasn't physically fit, I wouldn't allow any kind of violence towards an animal, let alone a human being. At no point did I hesitate to help her in the sense of considering my own safety. I didn't think about myself for a second and I would react the same way again," concluded Vladimir.
