This is the future that Serbia must prepare for, because more and more cars will be electric

During next week, a tender will be announced for setting up 20 stops on highways, where "green" gas stations will be built, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic said today.

Vesic explained that 20 rest areas on highways will be turned into "green gas stations" - a part will be left as parking lots and rest for drivers, but will be much better arranged, while in the other part, whoever wins the tender will be allowed to install at least 10 fast electric chargers and create a true "green" station that will have its own cafe, shop and children's play area.

"We currently have eight chargers on the highways in our country, we are now installing 10. We are currently reconstructing 26 toll booths and all the larger ones will have electric chargers. With these 20 rest areas where there will be at least ten chargers in each, we will have 200 new chargers on the highways and as a country we will be better equipped with electric chargers than many EU countries," Vesic told TV Prva.

This, he stated, is the future for which Serbia must prepare because more and more cars will be electric and countries that do not have good infrastructure will not attract people who travel through there, who will instead choose other routes.

Amendments to the Law on Planning and Construction, adopted by the Serbian Assembly, envisage the obligation that all those who have regular gas stations must have an electric charger in a certain number of them, so that, he pointed out, there will be no station on a highway without two or three electric chargers.

"When these 200 electric chargers are added to that and what (the company) Roads to Serbia is procuring, we will be truly well-equipped and in that sense be able to compete with the most developed EU countries, which is our goal, to keep up with European standards in everything," concluded Vesic.
