More than 1,600 companies in Serbia facing bankruptcy: Over 200 new cases opened since start of 2023

In Serbia, according to the data from the Bankruptcy Supervision Agency (ALSU), there were 1,603 active bankruptcy proceedings as of August 2.

That number does not include bankruptcy proceedings conducted under the Law on Compulsory Settlement, Bankruptcy and Liquidation and bankruptcy proceedings concerning banks and insurance companies, for which the Deposit Insurance Agency is responsible.

Since the start of the year until August 2, 224 bankruptcy proceedings were opened in the territory of Serbia, ALSU announced. In Serbia, according to the data from the Bankruptcy Supervision Agency, 773 bankruptcy proceedings were suspended by August 2.

A total of 6,618 bankruptcy proceedings were concluded in the territory of Serbia by that date. Also, the total average duration for 8,994 bankruptcy proceedings is three years, one month and 29 days (active, suspended and closed), while the total average duration for bankruptcy proceedings initiated under the Law on Bankruptcy Procedures (a total of 5,252) is four years. one month and nine days.

For bankruptcy proceedings - initiated under the Bankruptcy Law (a total of 3,742) - the average duration is one year, 10 months and five days.
