Heavenly or apocalyptic scene? Sabac locals have never seen pink rainbow, meteorologist explains it
Some parts of Serbia were again hit by a storm last night, and Belgraders experienced heavy rain. However, Sabac has an incredible sight in the sky.
Namely, as posted on the Facebook page of Sabacke Vesti, the sky above this city was flooded with an incredible palette of colors, and citizens came out of their houses in great numbers to take pictures of this wonderful scene.
Some caught yellow and orange hues, while on the other side, the sky was seen in blue and purple, and it seems as if a rainbow had also appeared.
However, the phenomenon was somewhat different from the usual one, and the rainbow appeared as a beam of bright pink light.
Many commented to say that the same phenomenon was seen in the town of Loznica. Although most citizens found the sight very pleasing to the eye, others commented that it seemed "apocalyptic."
"The end times are coming," wrote one Facebook user.
As Telegraf.rs meteorologist Djordje Djuric explains, the clouds in the photos are called "mammatus" and are created in areas of strong storms, with strong winds of updrafts. Although they look intimidating, they are harmless.
"Their lower base consists of other clouds such as cumulonimbus, cirrus, cirrostratus. The color of the clouds is like that because it was the end of the day, the sunset. Then the sun is low on the horizon, blue and green colors are scattered, while we get orange and red due to different wavelengths of light. Each color has a different wavelength, so purple has the shortest and red the longest, and that's why this phenomenon occurs in the sky," explains our meteorologist.
