According to the head of the Department for Emergency Situations Luka Causic, our firefighters who went to Greece to help put out the fires will soon know where they will be stationed.

"The briefing with the Greek hosts is underway. The Greek terrain is specific and one of the most difficult for firefighting in the world. With low vegetation, high temperatures and strong wind, firefighting is extremely difficult," Causic told RTS.

He also says that our team is absolutely self-sufficient for a period of 7 to 10 days, and whether they will stay longer in Greece depends on the situation on the ground.

Serbia also offered Greece help in extinguishing wildfires from the air.

"We have extremely strengthened the capacities of our helicopter unit for firefighting, and if there is a need, we will send that type of help to Greece, too," said Causic.

In the summer, fires are common in Serbia as well, yesterday firefighters extinguished those that broke out near Usce, Kursumlija and Pirot.

The head of the Department for Emergency Situations once again appealed on citizens to be careful because the human factor is the most common cause of wildfires.
