EPS: Electricity price hike is not certain, decision yet to be made
Acting General Director of EPS (Serbian state-owned electric power company), Dusan Zivkovic, has told RTS that the price of electricity is carefully analyzed and that "there was never a price increase for the sake of a price increase."
He added that a careful analysis will clearly show if there is a need for a price hike. He also pointed out that he believes there will be no layoffs at EPS and that the path they are taking is to retain quality employees, from workers to engineers.
Zivkovic also stated that due to the heat wave, there is a noticeable increase in electricity consumption this week.
"Last week it was at the level of 80,000 megawatt hours per day, this week it has already reached 90,000 megawatt hours. The increase in consumption is already at the level of ten percent, but EPS provides sufficient amounts of electricity from its own sources without any problems," added Zivkovic.
He said that a mild winter and good hydrological situation created the conditions for reservoirs and depots to be full. "We currently have over 600 gigawatt hours in the reservoirs, the depots are at the level of two million tons of coal, so we are ready for the next winter."
When it comes to coal production, he said it is at the planned level, and that the goal is to maintain a high level.
"In that sense, we do not expect any challenges and we believe that it will be like that", said Zivkovic and added that for now market needs are satisfied from our own means.
He stressed that now the key is to prepare for winter, and there has also been the warning from Total Energies.
"In order to maintain the maximum amount of water in the reservoirs, the maximum amount of coal and prepare that winter period for a safe supply of our citizens," said Zivkovic.
