President Vucic drove along newly opened Belgrade bypass: "I have a complaint, I believe we will fix it"
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali drove together along the Belgrade bypass, and presented their conclusions regarding this newly opened section of a highway.
It opened on Thursday at 7 pm in a ceremony, and was opened to traffic the next day at 9 am.
The president had a small objection regarding road markings, and announced that this will be resolved.
"We have objections to the markings because I wondered where exactly I should have turned in order to get to the bypass, I believe we will fix that," Vucic in a video published on the Instagram account of Sinisa Mali.
About the bypass
After more than 30 years of construction, drivers will be able to reach the Belgrade-Nis highway from Batajnica near Bubanj Potok via a full-profile highway, with six traffic lanes, that is 47 kilometers long.
The bypass redirects traffic from the overloaded basic network of city roads, which contributes to shortening the travel time for transit flows, reducing the number of traffic accidents, the costs of vehicle use, harmful gases and noise in the city's central area, according to the company Putevi Srbije (Roads of Serbia).
The bypass will reduce the number of vehicles crossing the Gazela Bridge, which is one of Serbia's busiest roadways, with between 200,000 and 250,000 people, almost 130,000 vehicles, more than 7,000 light trucks and more than 3,000 public transport vehicles crossing it every day.
