"Djokovic and Jokic should talk about Kosovo, their voices are heard far": Milicic on Nikola and Novak
Since Darko Milicic retired from basketball, he has led a somewhat quieter life. He lives and works in Serbia, and sometimes appears in public, where he is a guest on various shows or podcasts, talking about his career, as well as the current events in Serbia.
Vidovdan, one of the biggest holidays in Serbia, was marked this week, symbolic because of the fateful Battle of Kosovo took place on that day, June 28, in 1389. On that holiday, Djokovic also posted a message on his Instagram stories, showing that his thoughts are dedicated to this autonomous province of Serbia.
This is exactly what Darko Milicic touched on while appearing on the show.
"Athletes should comment on social issues. Especially people with influence should comment on topics that are real. I would like Nikola Jokic and Novak Djokovic to talk about Kosovo and Metohija. Kosovo is Serbia and it will be like that forever, it is the holy Serbian land. When people of global influence speak, there will be those who will listen and understand what is happening there. Everyone behaves as if they will upset someone? We are not trying to grab Bucharest or Budapest, we are talking about the holy Serbian land," said Milicic.
During the French Open, Djokovic wrote the message "Kosovo is the heart of Serbia" on a TV camera, which then caused an avalanche of comments.
"Now Djokovic wrote that and everyone jumped on him. Novak is a Serb, and the problem is that they know little about history, and if they did, they would not mention him in that context and would be ashamed of their words. People talk about the truth, but apparently it does not exist and is only valid if it's the way the powerful see it. Kudos to Novak and he should be heard more. The voice of athletes goes the farthest and they are the most positive people."
Finally, Milicic pointed out that he saw a change in Novak.
"To take the path of answering to everyone... There's Novak Djokovic as well. He tried, 'the West, the West', that's what sport imposed on him, but he realized after all what the West is. They turned their backs on him. After the first disagreement over Covid, when he refused to obey, immediately there were problems."
