Spanish Ambassador to Serbia Raul Bartolome Molina said today that Spain's position on Kosovo will remain unchanged (Spain does not recognize Kosovo as independent), and that the fact that his country supports the attempts of EU representatives Josep Borrell and Miroslav Lajcak to resolve the situation does not mean that this stance will change.

"Chapter 35 in the (EU accession) negotiation process speaks about normalization of relations, not about recognition and in Spain there is consensus among the main parties that even if there is a change of government, there will be no change of the position (regarding Kosovo), the consensus on this issue will not change, at least when it comes to the main political parties," Ambassador Bartolome told Tanjug in an interview.

He said that the current situation in Kosovo is a cause for concern, but that he hopes that the negotiations will lead to a solution.

"We are very worried about everything that is happening there because we only see one crisis after another."

"We support the plan, the so-called the Franco-German plan, that is, the European plan to find a solution. The situation is serious, but we hope that negotiations will lead to a solution. Our position is that we do not recognize Kosovo, but we support Serbia's attempts to normalize relations with Kosovo.

I believe that a lot needs to be done because it seems that agreements have not been put into effect. The Kosovo side did not accept the formation of the ZSO (Community of Serb Municipalities), which is a must and is the start of a solution," he said.
