Vucic from Brussels: "I'm afraid things have gone too far, Serbs are being hunted down every day"
A meeting between the president of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic with EU Commissioner for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell, and EU Special Envoy for Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak, was held on Thursday in Brussels
President Vucic addressed the media after the meeting.
"I listened to everything that the high representative and the person in charge of the dialogue, Lajcak, had to say. I understand their will to solve problems through talks. They said they would do everything they can in the process.
"I will say what I insisted on. For us, the biggest problem is not one, two, three situations, but the fact that, for the second or third year in a row, Kurti's regime is trying to expel the Serbs, remove them from their homes. Whether it's arrests, beating people, elections with a turnout of 3-4 percent, banning the entry of every truck with Serbian license plates. Today I presented a report about the injuries of people who were arrested, who are not guilty of anything, NATO and EULEX even said that about some," said the president.
"What we are looking for is something that everyone is looking for, just a normal relationship, nothing more. Every day Serbs are hunted down, then after five days when they let people go they say, 'we made a mistake'. No one knows, not even EULEX, why those people got arrested. Nevermind why they were beaten.
I have always come to every conversation because I believe that dialogue is important and healing. At the moment I don't see any reason to meet with a man who causes conflicts every day (Kurti), it's his fanatical ideology, I think I would cause harm that way. I am always ready to talk to European representatives. We have to understand, (the issue of) Kosovo did not appear out of nowhere. What is for us not, for a majority of EU countries is an independent state. It's their baby, a teenager gone crazy, but they still protect their baby," said Vucic and added:
"Our position is very difficult, everything that applies to Ukraine does not apply to Serbia. We have to get used to it. As for the representatives, I have no objections, the member states should be satisfied. What can they blame Serbia for? It is up to us to do our job and try to act correctly, to preserve stability."
