A magnitude 4 earthquake hit Obrez near the town of Paracin around noon today, and as our well known seismologist Slavica Radovanovic told Telegraf.rs, it was to be expected that it would also occur in our territory.

"There was an earthquake in Bulgaria a few days ago, there were also two in Timisoara (Romania). We spoke about the fact that this seismic activity will certainly spread to our areas," Slavica Radovanovic told Telegraf.rs.

According to her, the earthquake that happened today in the region of Paracin was in a known hotspot.

"It happened on the southern slopes of Mt. Juhor, and that is a known place that has had earthquakes before," she said, and when asked what we can expect next, did not want to make predictions, instead noting that we must wait and see.

The Seismological Survey of Serbia announced that the earthquake occurred at 12:11 local time (Central European).

"The theoretical intensity in the epicenter was estimated at degree VI on the Mercalli scale. Earthquakes of this intensity can cause minor damage to buildings in the epicenter area," according to the Seismological Survey.

It was also felt in Krusevac, Trstenik, and Belgrade.

In Krusevac, citizens say that they had a chance to experience "a free merry-go-round," and a reader from Zvezdara in Belgrade told us that her chair that has wheels swayed.
