KFOR removes razor wire from around the Leposavic municipality, night passed peacefully
A metal fence, however, remained in front of the headquarters of the northernmost municipality in Kosovo and Metohija
KFOR members late last night removed the razor wire they had put around the municipal building in Leposavic, Tanjug reported.
US KFOR soldiers, who provide access to the municipal headquarters, completely removed the razor wire that they installed ten days ago, when Albanian mayor Lulzim Peci forcibly entered the building, with the help of members of the so-called Kosovo police and its special forces.
A metal fence, however, remained in front of the headquarters of the northernmost municipality in Kosovo and Metohija, on which local Serbs have displayed Serbian flags.
According to Tanjug, the Pristina special forces are still in the building, but their vehicles are placed behind it, while only KFOR vehicles are in front.
In all four municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, the night passed peacefully, and citizens, as in previous days, began to gather, demanding the departure of the special police.
The protest in the north of the province occurred after so-called Kosovo police on May 26 forcefully brought Albanian mayors, elected in a vote boycotted by majority Serbs, into municipal buildings.
On Monday, May 29, during the protest in Zvecan, there was a clash between the special forces of the Kosovo police and members of KFOR with Serb citizens.
On that occasion, more than 50 Serbs and over 20 members of the international peace mission were injured.
The Serbs who peacefully protest in Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic in recent days, demand that the so-called Kosovo police special units leave all four municipalities and that the Albanian mayors do not enter the municipal buildings.
