Migrant smuggling ring broken: They transferred 800 people via the Balkan route

Members of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, UKP, the Service for Combating Organized Crime, as part of the Joint Investigation Team between Germany, Romania and Serbia, participated in a join operation to break a ring smuggling irregular migrants via the Balkan route.

Four people were arrested in the territory of Germany and Romania, while one person was arrested earlier in the territory of Serbia, and it is suspected that during the last and this year, they smuggled around 800 migrants from Turkey to Germany via the Balkan route through Serbia.

Otherwise, the police officers from the UKP and Service for Combating Organized Crime also participated in the identification of the suspects.

It is suspected that the suspects smuggled the migrants using various means of transport and hid them in the cargo areas trucks, in inhumane conditions.

This operation was carried out in coordination with Eurojust, Europol and the Austrian police.

In December 2022, a Joint Investigation Team was formed between the Public Prosecutor's Office in Germany, the Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court of Cassation in Romania and the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime in the Republic of Serbia.
