Vucic spoke with Lajcak and Escobar about the current situation in the north of Kosovo and Metohija
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met yesterday with the European Union's special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and other regional issues of the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Serbia, Emanuele Giaufret, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, Christopher Hill.
The current situation in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, ways to reduce tension on the ground, implementation of the agreements reached so far and possibilities for the progress of the dialogue conducted with the mediation of the EU were discussed, announced the president's press service.
"Vucic reiterated the full commitment of the Republic of Serbia to the process of dialogue with Pristina, to achieving compromise and sustainable solutions in favor of a better life and relations between Serbs and Albanians, and as a key demand he underlined the security of our people in Kosovo and Metohija," the statement said.
The president also reiterated his insistence on the full implementation of the signed agreements from Brussels, first and foremost the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, and called on the international community to engage more with Pristina in that direction.
EU and US representatives reiterated their joint request for an immediate end to tension and violence on the ground, new elections with the participation of Kosovo Serbs, and a return to dialogue on normalization.
Both sides agreed that de-escalation and a return to dialogue are necessary both for the better life of all citizens and progress on the road to European integration, as well as for the stability of the entire region, the statement added.
Previously, President Vucic, in a post on his Instagram account "buducnostsrbijeav," said that in his meeting with Lajcak and Escobar, he stated that he wanted to believe that a part of the international community that has the greatest influence on Pristina also has mechanisms that can lead to the Pristina finally implementing obligations which it accepted and signed more than a decade ago.
"I said that it is time for Pristina to finally fulfill its obligations, and above all form the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO) in accordance with the Brussels Agreement", wrote Vucic and reminded that Serbia has been a constructive, consistent and reliable partner in all processes that would led to preserving stability of the entire region.
He also posted photos from the meeting with the two officials, held in Belgrade's Villa Mir.
