KFOR lets employees toward Zvecan municipal building, so-called Kosovo police throws tear gas at them

The Kosovo police used tear gas in front of the municipality of Zvecan against employees of the local self-government, who were previously allowed to pass through by members of KFOR, reports Kosovo-online.com.

KFOR forces with soldiers armed with rifles and in riot gear have been deployed in front of and around the local government building in Zvecan since this morning.

Employees of the local self-government in Zvecan broke through the first cordon of KFOR soldiers, no one stopped them.

They reached the municipal building, tried to enter, but the police stopped them at the very entrance, and after several attempts to break into the building, the police used tear gas.

They are gathered around the municipality building, in the immediate vicinity, and the police established a cordon of special forces equipped with equipment to break up demonstrations at the very entrance.

At the very entrance to the building are still members of the special forces in armored vehicles.

Representatives of the Serb List Goran Rakic, Igor Simic and Dragisa Milovic arrived in Zvecan and are negotiating with the police of so-called Kosovo, who threw tear gas at the citizens who gathered near the municipality building, reports Tanjug.

The police deployed special forces at all major intersections in the north of Kosovo.

The situation is tense. Schools are closed and local government officials were earlier getting ready for work, although it was unclear whether they would be able to enter the buildings.

The situation has been tense since early morning everywhere in the north of Kosovo and Metohija due to the presence of an unusually large number of members of the police and KFOR.

On Friday, after the attempts of citizens in the north of Kosovo and Metohija to prevent the police from entering the municipal premises in Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, clashes occurred, during which the police used tear gas, smoke and stun grenades.

Several Serbs were injured, and the Kosovo police entered the municipal buildings and brought Albanian mayors inside.
