Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic today issued an order to raise the combat readiness of the Serbian Army to the highest level, Tanjug has learned.

President and Commander-in-Chief Aleksandar Vucic signed an order raising the combat readiness of the units of the Serbian Army to the highest level, and ordered them to immediately start moving in the direction of the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija.

Vucic made this decision because of the violence that Albin Kurti's special police has been subjecting Serbs to in Zvecan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavic.

Also, the head of state asked NATO that the violence against the Serbs ends urgently.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense of Serbia, Nemanja Starovic, says that special units of the Kosovo police today surrounded municipal buildings in the majority-Serb north of Kosovo with the aim of installing new mayors elected with only 3.47 percent of votes cast in the April 23 elections, which the Serbs boycotted.

Reports from the three municipalities say that sirens are sounding in these town, tear gas is being thrown and gunshots are heard, while the mobile telephony signal has been turned off in Leposavic.

Disturbed by these events, the Serbs are starting to gather around the municipal buildings. KFOR and EULEX vehicles are seen in their immediate vicinity.

Clashes between the police and citizens that resulted in injuries have been reported in Zvecan.
